At Sierra Club BC, we’re building a movement that invites everyone to better care for forests, biodiversity and a stable climate. From the grassroots to the forest canopy, from the classroom to city hall, we create space for community-centered and inclusive action.
Our goal is to prove that progress is possible, even in the face of the immense challenges posed by the climate and biodiversity crisis. This affects everyone in British Columbia and beyond, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why Sierra Club BC works across diverse sectors to inspire hope, action and better outcomes for the ecosystems that sustain life for all.

Sierra Club BC has a long history of strengthening environmental policies and holding the provincial government accountable to their commitments. We create political change by working with governments, empowering local leaders from diverse sectors to advocate for the environment, mobilizing our huge network of supporters, and collaborating with Indigenous Nations.
Releasing hard-hitting scientific reports and mapping
For decades, SCBC has been a trusted source for scientific research on environmental issues and solutions in B.C. We partner with leading scientists and Indigenous knowledge-holders to release hard-hitting reports and mapping which inform policies and land-use planning practices.
Empowering local leaders
Individuals can make a big difference in their communities. But many folks don’t know how to begin or haven’t seen themselves reflected in the environmental movement. That’s where Sierra Club BC comes in. We create welcoming community spaces, host workshops and share resources for local leaders of all backgrounds to build a brighter future.
Supporting Indigenous-led solutions
Indigenous-led work is essential to addressing colonial harms and creating a sustainable and just future. Working alongside First Nations isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s a legal necessity. We collaborate with Indigenous communities, supporting conservation work on their terms. This includes GIS mapping, community collaboration, and engaging with the B.C. government to remove barriers and support Indigenous-led solutions.
Raising public awareness
We make environmental issues everyday topics of conversation by attracting media coverage, making viral social media content, and creating easy-to-understand resources.
Running environmental education workshops for youth
Youth are the decision-makers of tomorrow. Education, especially for children and teenagers, is vital to ensure future generations will nurture thriving ecosystems and a stable climate. That’s why for decades we’ve run free environmental education workshops in schools across the province, reaching over 170,000 students to date.
Re-connecting with the lands and waters
Many of us feel separate from the natural world we all belong to. That’s why we run land-based programs to connect participants with the forests, rivers, animals and plants we live alongside. People protect what they love, so this work of re-connection is crucial for creating the momentum needed to restore thriving ecosystems and a stable climate.
